Based on Meta's official documentation:

  • Image: 1200×630px (1.91:1 ratio), under 8MB
  • Title: 60-90 characters
  • Description: 150-160 characters
  • Format: JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF

Required Meta Tags

Facebook requires these four Open Graph tags for proper link previews:

Image Requirements

According to Facebook's sharing best practices:

Recommended Size

1200 × 630px

1.91:1 aspect ratio

Minimum Size

200 × 200px

Images below this are rejected

Max File Size

8 MB

Keep under 1MB for speed

Formats

JPG, PNG, WebP

GIF also supported

Image URL Requirements

  • • Use absolute HTTPS URLs (not relative paths)
  • • Image must be publicly accessible (no login required)
  • • Keep important content away from edges (may be cropped)

Testing & Debugging

Use Facebook's official Sharing Debugger to:

  • Preview how your link will appear
  • Identify missing or invalid tags
  • Clear cached previews (click "Scrape Again")

Common Issues

"Could not retrieve data"→ URL is not publicly accessible
"Image too small"→ Image must be at least 200×200px
"Missing properties"→ Add og:title, og:image, og:url
