Quick Reference

Use official debugger tools to clear cache:

Why Platforms Cache

Social platforms cache OG tags for performance. Cache durations:

PlatformCache DurationClear Tool
Facebook7-30 daysSharing Debugger
LinkedIn7-14 daysPost Inspector
Twitter~7 daysCard Validator
Slack24-48 hoursNo official tool
Discord24 hoursNo official tool

Facebook

  1. Go to Facebook Sharing Debugger
  2. Paste your URL and click "Debug"
  3. Click "Scrape Again" to refresh cache
  4. Wait a few minutes, then test by sharing

LinkedIn

  1. Go to LinkedIn Post Inspector
  2. Paste your URL and click "Inspect"
  3. Cache clears automatically when you inspect

LinkedIn Tip

LinkedIn's cache can be stubborn. If the preview doesn't update, try adding a query parameter: ?v=2

Twitter/X

  1. Go to Twitter Card Validator
  2. Paste your URL and click "Preview card"
  3. Re-validating refreshes the cache

Other Platforms

For platforms without debugger tools (Slack, Discord, WhatsApp):

  • Add query parameter: ?v=2 or ?refresh=1 creates a "new" URL
  • Wait: Most caches expire in 24-48 hours
  • Change image filename: og-image-v2.jpg

Prevention

  • Test before publishing — Use our preview tool
  • Validate with debuggers — Check Facebook/LinkedIn before sharing
  • Version your images — Use filenames like og-v2.jpg
